Feedlot Grain Conveying System

Custom conveyor solution enabling efficient grain transfer from storage silos to a pelletising mill in a constrained feedlot installation.

Problem

A large feedlot operation in Western Australia’s Mid West required an effective method to transfer grain from newly installed storage silos to a pelletising mill. However, the original equipment manufacturer was unable to provide a suitable conveyor due to challenging site constraints. Limited clearance beneath the silo, difficult approach angles and an unsuitable discharge angle into the mill meant that standard conveying equipment could not be used, leaving the installed system unable to operate as intended.

Solution

We conducted a detailed site assessment and developed a custom conveying system using a Modquip Modular Conveyors design. The low-profile conveyor allowed the tail section to fit beneath the silo while maintaining the required material flow to the mill. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel for durability in outdoor environments, the enclosed conveyor protected the grain from weather exposure while ensuring reliable transfer. The head section was engineered to discharge into a specially designed oblique chute to deliver the grain at the correct angle into the pelletising mill. The system was supplied flat-packed for local assembly, reducing freight costs while maintaining installation flexibility. Modular conveyors are built from locally stocked components and can be supplied in customised lengths and widths to suit specific site requirements.

Outcome

The installed conveyor enabled reliable grain transfer from the silos to the pelletising mill, allowing the customer’s equipment to operate as originally intended. The custom low-profile design overcame the site’s space limitations while maintaining efficient product flow. As a result, the feedlot gained a practical and durable solution that restored full functionality to the grain handling process.
