Reducing Dust Emissions at Tonkin Highway NorthLink Project
To meet EPA standards, a major WA asphalt producer needed to control excessive quarry dust emissions.
Problem
During early upgrades to the Tonkin Highway – NorthLink Project, one of Western Australia’s leading asphalt producers faced excessive dust emissions from quarry aggregate processing.
Despite the plant’s advanced technology and low-emission asphalt production, the discharge from the kiln’s dust collector exceeded re-use capacity. The resulting plumes from the discharge screw made it difficult to work nearby and failed to meet EPA environmental requirements.
Solution
Following a prior site visit, Inquip had already identified dust discharge as a potential issue and pre-stocked a WETMIX V05 dust conditioner in preparation.
When the problem escalated, the unit was delivered to site the next day. Inquip provided support with mounting and plumbing guidance, ensuring rapid installation.
Once operational, the system immediately suppressed airborne dust, prompting the site manager to describe its performance as:
“sensational – does what it says on the tin.”

Impact
The WETMIX V05 effectively eliminated dust emissions around the discharge point, enabling compliance with EPA standards and improving on-site safety. Its success led to widespread adoption of WETMIX and Dustfix systems across asphalt plants throughout Western Australia.
